Sue Mowery
Sue has lived in Saint John NB throughout her life enjoying her family. She credits her dad with her first interest in art. Her love of painting led her to the opportunity to study with Canadian War Artist, Molly Lamb Bobak several years ago. This initially guided Susan to explore the medium of watercolour and florals.
Over the years, Susan became curious about other mediums and challenged herself in many different forms of expression. She painted original designs on silk and won a provincial award for her unique creations. She has been juried in stained glass and her "one of a kind" pieces can be found in numerous interior home settings.
Several years ago, Susan and her husband had the opportunity to work and travel in China. This experience continues to influence her view of detail as well as the power of minimal line and colour and mood. This can be seen in her sepia ink drawings of trees, cattails and other subjects in nature.
At present, Susan continues to teach small classes and encourages her students to explore the world around them as they see it and love it, always being true to their feelings and desire to create.
Susan loves the fluidity of oils and paints, wispy and lone ragged trees as found on the Maritime coastline. She also continues to love florals, now painting them more from her imagination and scale.
Susan is very grateful for her gift and accomplishments. Her work can be found in numerous private collections throughout Canada and the USA. She has been in numerous galleries and exhibitions. Her works continue to show her journey of expression through changing subjects, medium and atmosphere. She believes that an artist thrives on the challenge that style and colour present, with the ultimate goal to continue to push the boundaries from within and enjoy the emergence of the art.
